Whether your yarn is a single or plied, if it is fresh off the wheel it needs finishing. If not properly set, those stresses put into the yarn while it was being made, remain, unrelieved. The yarn will move to release them, often at the most inopportune moment, like at the first laundry or wearing. Each fiber has its’ own solution to establishing a calm, workable and “balanced” yarn.
Besides establishing a predictable, non-lively, workable yarn, further finishing processes can raise a nap, or apply a temporary (washes out) stabilizer in order to use singles for knitting or weaving.
Yarn storage is the finale. Your job isn’t “finished” until your yarn is put away.
Material fee $10 – Instructor will provide: handouts, sample cards, finishing and yarn handling tools.
