Weaving Handspun Fabrics for Maximum Drape

Home Weaving Handspun Fabrics for Maximum Drape

    TAUGHT BY Susan Fricks

Weaving Handspun Fabrics for Maximum Drape

    Half day class, offered once
    Tuesday, April 18th,  9am-noon

Ever wonder why some fabrics are very drapey yet others using the very same materials are not? Want to spin and weave fabric for a swingy skirt, but find your woven fabrics end up too stiff and heavy? In this class, you will learn the factors that affect drape and why the standard sett charts for weaving are only the beginning. We’ll discuss how to go beyond the charts and think outside the box to get just the drapey fabric you want for your intended purpose. We will review lots of handwoven samples, many using handspun yarn, to bring home the principles of drape.

    Materials fee: $0

Class Level: beginner weaver and beyond

    STUDENTS SHOULD BRING

    • notepad and pen/pencil
    • optionally, sample fabrics without expected drape
