TAUGHT BY Longdraw James Perry

Spinning for Sweaters

Full day class, offered once

Wednesday, April 19th

9am-5pm (noon-2 break)

There’s nothing better than a handspun, handknit sweater to keep you warm during winter. For me, being able to wear them is one of my favourite parts of the winter. In this class, I am going to take you through the processes I go through when I am making a new sweater, giving the principles to make the perfect sweater. We will discuss fiber choice, prep and spinning style and investigate how those can alter and affect the finished fabric. We will also talk about yarn construction and why you might choose one over another. We will then look at matching yarn to a pattern with a focus on maintaining consistency both whilst spinning singles and when plying. Finally, we will discuss color and investigate some ways you can use various colors in your sweater yarn.

Level: Beginner with a tad of experience

Materials fee: $45
