TAUGHT BY Jay Warner

Scrappy Doo

Full day class, offered once

Friday, April 21st
9am-5pm (noon-2pm break)

Do you have left over handspun from other projects? How about art yarns? How do different yarns affect a woven project? Let’s find out together as we weave a scarf or wall hanging.

In this class we will look at all the yarns everyone brought and discuss how they can be used for weaving and how different yarns in the weft affect the woven piece.  While we are talking and learning as a group, everyone will be weaving a scarf from their handspun or they can barter and trade with other students to make a truly special piece. Weaving produces fabric traditionally but can also be a fun artistic and creative process with the right yarns and a willingness to experiment and play, you can create one of a kind piece of art for purely decorative purposes.

Material fee $0

Skill Level: Beginner

STUDENTS SHOULD BRING

  • a loom that has already been warped with a DK or Sport weight wool or wool blend yarn, using an 8 dent reed (or warped with appropriate subs to 8epi). If you have never warped a loom before, please sign up for the “Get Warped! Dressing a Rigid Heddle Loom” class where you will learn to dress your loom using the direct warp method.
  • a variety of handspun yarns to use as weft.  You should bring a variety of handspun yarns and you do not need to have yarn that is all the same, although you can if that is your preference
