Full Day Class
Thursday, April 21st
9am-5pm with 12pm-2pm break
Fiber preparation has a strong influence on the yarn you spin. In this workshop we will practice using hand-held tools to prepare fiber for spinning. Although there is some overlap in what you can do with flick cards, hand cards, and hand combs, each tool has its own special functions. There will be a strong focus on the importance of physical comfort: we will cover how to choose the right tool for your hands and the fiber you prepare, as well as techniques to avoid pain and overuse problems. Along with preparing washed fleece and locks, we will also do some “prepping” of already prepared fibers, and blending of different fibers together. Knowing how to use all of these tools will allow you versatility and choice in your fiber preparation and spinning.
Material Fee: $25
Level: can spin a single and ply, no experience necessary with the prep tools
