TAUGHT BY MAGGIE CASEY

A Fleece Just Followed Me Home - Now What?

2 Day Class
Tuesday, April 14th & Wednesday, April 15th
9am-5pm with a 12pm-2pm break

It was love at first sight!  You bought a fleece–and now what do you do with it?  It depends!  We will prepare a fine, medium and long wool fleece.  We will card and comb all three types of fleece and spin them woolen and worsted and then ply. You will have enough fleece to knit samples with your yarn, so we can discover the perfect combination of preparation and spinning for your project.

Day 1
1. Wheel Maintenance
2. Prepare and spin woolen yarns
3. Spin a consistent yarn
4. Prepare and spin worsted yarns

Day 2
1. Ply yarns
2. Finishing techniques

Materials Fee:  $25 – for fleece, notebook, use of drum carder and wool combs

Level:  Students should be able to spin a continuous yarn and be comfortable with their wheel.

STUDENTS SHOULD BRING

  • Spinning wheel and all its parts
  • Lazy Kate and at least 3 bobbins
  • Wool hand cards if you already own them
  • Combs if you already own them.
  • Usual spinning tools
