TAUGHT BY HEAVENLY BRESSER

Blending Boards: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Friday, April 17th
AM Half Day 9am-12pm

This class addresses the love-hate relationship many fiber artists have with blending boards. This class aims towards teaching proper technique for making rolags (the good), avoiding common mistakes that make blending frustrating and difficult (the bad), and ways to pick colors to blend together to create harmony instead of unintentional mud (the ugly).

We’ll practice using commercially prepared fibers for blending and loading as well as discuss how to use fleece on the blending board. Students will learn an effective way to use the blending board to sample different color ideas and practice loading the board for ease of removal of rolags and ways to incorporate fibers of varying lengths without getting clumps, tangles, or excessive fibers left behind on the board.

This class is hands-on. Feel free to bring the fibers you’d like to blend, a variety of colors is best. Various commercial top will also be available for blending during class

Materials fee: $12

Skill Level: No experience necessary

STUDENTS SHOULD BRING

  • Students should bring their blending boards and accessories.
  • Optional: Students may bring fibers they’d like to blend on their board. Examples: combed top or roving and add-ins such as silk, tencel, firestar, etc. Various fibers will be available in class.
