Friday April 12th – 1 Day Class
Do you want to use hand dyed braids and other colors for a knitting project, but don’t know where to start?
There are so many questions when spinning color for knitting:
- Do I have enough of the color I want?
- What do I do if I don’t?
- What will it look like?
- How can I make smaller amounts of fiber work for a bigger project, like a sweater?
- How do I shop for a color project?
This class will help answer those questions by putting a lot of dyed fiber in your hands.
You will spin and sample, variegated fiber, solids and semi solids. You’ll learn about dye patterns, how to control them, change them and stretch them. We’ll talk about and practice, combo spinning, combo drafting, fractal spinning, blending and mixing colors at the wheel.
Through sampling you’ll learn a variety of color spinning techniques, see their outcomes and even stretch the ideas of what colors and techniques ‘match’. You’ll learn how to visualize how color will play out in a larger piece without having to knit half of a sweater.
By the end of this class you’ll feel color confident to design one or multiple yarns for a project.
Level: Beginner plus, familiar with spinning and plying
Materials fee: $30
