This is an introduction to cotton spinning. Students will spend an entire day immersed in cotton. Starting with learning about their wheels and how they operate and how to adjust them for different kinds of fibers. Then they will begin spinning their cotton punis into beautiful singles.
The afternoon will begin with spinning off the seed to moving on to the prepared sliver. Ending the day, you will ply the morning colored singles with the afternoon white cotton singles. Thus, each student should go home with a plied skein of cotton yarn and a good knowledge of cotton and how to spin it into useable yarn. After the full day you’ll fee well-versed in Carding and making punis, Adjusting wheels for short fibers, Spinning the punis, Cotton History, Spinning off the seed and techniques for spinning cotton sliver, Plying a cotton yarn.
Materials Fee: $15
Level: Beginner but must be comfortable treadling and making the wheel go both clockwise and counter clockwise.
